Markus has a doctoral degree in Political Science from the London School of Economics and a BA in History and Politics from the University of Warwick. His doctoral research concerned the interconnections between policy areas and how these influence party ideologies and positional change. His interests in party competition also cover the measurement of policy positions, the niche party phenomenon and party groups in the European Parliament. His research on voting behaviour is focused on the role of political issues in determining vote choice.

At the Department of Methods, Markus is part of the team working on the Austrian National Election Study (
www.autnes.at), where his focus is on the development of survey instruments and the analysis of Austrian voting behaviour. Methodologically, his research and teaching concentrates on regression modelling.
